Devhonte ‘Bones’ Johnson, a black belt under Professor Murilo Santana, is a highly esteemed American grappler. With numerous World, Pan American, and European titles in colored belt divisions, as well as victories in black belt IBJJF Worlds No-Gi, Pan American No-Gi, and European No-Gi Championships, he is considered one of the best of his generation. Devhonte’s journey began in Paterson, New Jersey, where he developed a passion for baseball and basketball. However, during his senior year of high school, he discovered Jiu Jitsu and dedicated himself to it. Guided by Coach Edson Carvalho and later mentored by Professor Murilo Santana at Unity Jiu Jitsu in New York City, Devhonte achieved great success, culminating in his black belt in 2018. Since his purple belt, he has been coaching Jiu Jitsu and eventually opened Bones Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Clifton, New Jersey.
Emily Harris, a key figure at Bones Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy since its beginning, has played a crucial role in developing both our Women’s and Kids Jiu Jitsu programs. As Professor Devhonte’s first female student, she earned the nickname “Em-Train” for her spirited, submission-focused Jiu Jitsu style, which contrasts her small stature, sweet smile, and caring nature. A dedicated athlete, Emily consistently medals in prestigious competitions like the IBJJF World Championship and the Pan American Championship. With over 10 years of coaching experience in youth athletics, including softball, volleyball, and Jiu Jitsu, she excels at making learning enjoyable while teaching values like respect and discipline. Anthony Silva is a highly accomplished instructor at Bones Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy, with over 20 years of experience in grappling and martial arts. His passion for Jiu Jitsu began at a young age, and he has since become a successful competitor and trainer. Anthony’s impressive tournament victories and medal placements both nationally and internationally reflect his commitment to excellence. Notably, he achieved bronze medals at Nogi Worlds as a blue belt and secured both Gi and Nogi titles at the American Nationals as a purple belt. At brown belt, he’s won numerous weight and absolutes titles at IBJJF opens and placed third at the IBJJF Pans Nogi tournament. His positive mindset and unwavering determination inspire his students to overcome their own limitations and achieve greatness. With his extensive experience, remarkable accomplishments, and commitment to empowering others, Anthony contributes to the success of our students and the wider Jiu Jitsu community as a whole.
